Special to GUIDON
Are you familiar with all the colleges associated with Fort Leonard Wood’s Truman Education Center? One school, Central Texas College, has been serving the installation for more than 40 years.
“Central Texas College has been serving Soldiers on Fort Leonard Wood since 1976,” said Norris Johnson, Truman Education Center Education Services officer. “They offer vocational technical programs that provide educational opportunities to students locally, nationally and internationally. They offer associate degrees in arts and science, Associates of Applied Technology and certificates of completion in maintenance technology, offering a hands on experience.”
CTC is planning to re-start their automotive program this spring. This program has not been offered in more than three years due to loss of space.
The Trades/Maintenance Technology Program provides students a solid understanding of the construction industry with practical application in building and remodeling. Offered at the Fort Leonard Wood site, the program also consists of both an Associate in Applied Science degree and certificates of completion in building trades.
Students in the program participate in lab work with theory in the areas of masonry, blueprint reading, surveying, home maintenance, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, cabinetry, estimating, painting, framing, roofing and preventative building maintenance.
Classes are held at night by certified instructors with more than 60 combined years of experience.
“Central Texas College is a not-for-profit institution; maintains low cost tuition rates, and doesn’t charge fees for admissions, labs, transcripts or graduation,” said Matin Tootle, Central Texas College Fort Leonard Wood site director. “We are a two-year college with agreements in place with local colleges, ensuring the transfer of your approved credits in support of continued education.”
CTC is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
