Fort Leonard Wood will kick off its annual Strong B.A.N.D.S. Campaign May 4 with a “Springtime Sweat,” the first of five events planned in May.
Scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at Davidson Fitness Center, the Springtime Sweat will allow participants to meet the center’s fitness instructors, sample classes and plan summer workouts. Admission is $3 per person, and fitness cards can be used. For more details, call 573.596.4359.
Strong B.A.N.D.S. — which stands for Balance, Activity, Nutrition, Determination and Strength — promotes garrison fitness and wellness programs available to service members, their families, retirees and civilians. The campaign is held annually by participating Army garrisons worldwide.

— May 8: The annual library StoryWalk takes place at 12:20 p.m. as a Strong B.A.N.D.S. event at the Bruce C. Clark Library. Visitors can take a walk around the library quad during storytime while reading the book “Hector the Hummingbird” by Nicholas John Frith page by page. Admission is free. — May 11: The Run to Remember 5K Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. at DFC. Army Community Services, Gold Star families and the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Sports and Fitness Department will hold the free run as an event paying tribute to Soldiers lost but not forgotten. The race is free and open to the public. The race will be followed at 9 a.m. by a Kid’s Half Miler. For details, call 573.596.4359.
— May 18: The annual May Days Softball Tournament is being held as a Strong B.A.N.D.S. event, with games starting at 9 a.m. at the fields at Sports Complex B. Teams can register now through May 16 for the tournament, which will feature seven-inning games under American Softball Association rules. No unit affiliation is necessary. Players must be ages 18 or older and out of high school. Entry is $100 per team. Register by 5 p.m. May 16 in person at DFC or by calling 573.596.4359.
— May 25: The inaugural Strong B.A.N.D.S. Float Fest includes a 2-hour float trip followed by an afternoon of fun, food and games. Entry fees are $50 per canoe, which can fit up to three individuals. Participants should bring their own personal floatation devices for children ages 4 and younger. The float trip will be followed by a volleyball tournament, tug-of-war competition, bounce houses, a cornhole tournament, horseshoes and more.
