By Secretary of the Army Mark Esper
Special to GUIDON
The 2019 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, or FEVS, is available to all eligible Army civilians through June 25.
The FEVS enables Army civilians to share with the Army both what is working well and potential areas for improvement within their work units, organizations and commands. I urge all Army civilians who receive an invitation to participate in the survey and complete it.
The FEVS is one of the best tools we have to measure our progress in areas such as communication, leadership effectiveness and workplace satisfaction.
When we received our 2018 results, we saw continued improvement across many areas. However, we also lost ground in our “Leaders Lead” category.
As such, I ask that leaders review the 2018 results, particularly with an eye toward building employee motivation and job commitment.
Additionally, except for three organizations, Army participation in the FEVS was below the target response rate. Therefore, I ask Army leaders to encourage their employees to review and complete the 2019 FEVS.
Importantly, the FEVS provides an opportunity for us to engage with the entire workforce and collect valuable feedback as we modernize our approach to talent management.
Army civilians are an invaluable asset to the Army, and an engaged workforce will enable us to acquire, develop, employ and retain talented individuals for our Army Civilian Corps while enhancing Army readiness.
We need the support of Army civilians to build on the progress we have made by sharing their perceptions on how we are doing and where we can improve to enhance Army readiness.
I ask all of you to share your thoughts and feedback through the 2019 FEVS.
