The Waynesville High School cross-country team will send two runners to the Missouri Sectionals after qualifying at the Class 4 District 4 meet held Saturday in Eureka, Missouri.
Competing against 10 other schools, WHS junior runner Bryan O’Barr took fourth place in the varsity boys’ race with a time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds, while WHS senior Madelyn Newsom placed 15th in the varsity girls’ race with a time of 20:11.
The top 30 individual runners and top four teams in the district advanced to sectionals, which will be held Saturday in Chesterfield, Missouri.
“I’m very proud of these two,” said Nicole Jarman, WHS cross-country coach. “They definitely put in the work in the off-season and through the (regular) season to earn their spot at the sectional meet.”
Participants in the sectional round will have a chance to advance to the state meet.

The WHS Tigers varsity football team finished their regular season with a 50-0 win over the visiting Parkview High School Vikings from Springfield, Missouri, Friday, which was also Senior Night at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers were led by senior running back Shen Butler-Lawson, who rushed for 117 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Mike Lewis was 10-for-12 through the air, racking up 149 passing yards, also scoring three touchdowns. Also scoring for the Tigers were senior wide receivers Jaylen Andrews and Levi Garcia, freshman running back Evander Bradford and sophomore running back Eric Richardson.
Senior linebacker Ian Williams led the Tiger defense with nine tackles, including two sacks. Freshman defensive lineman JaShawn Mabry-Liles had eight tackles, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
Up next: The Tigers begin their district playoffs with a Nov. 8 match-up at home against the Central High School Bulldogs from Springfield.
