The Waynesville High School Tigers varsity baseball team rallied in the final inning to beat the visiting Osage High School Indians 7-6 Friday at home.
It was a back-and-forth game that saw several lead changes. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers’ L.J. Beam scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Hunter O’Neil. A few plays later, Clayton Bassett, who was courtesy running for A.J. Perkins, scored on a single by Hunter Poole to win the game.
On March 20, the Tigers fell to the Marshfield High School Blue Jays 7-3 at Marshfield, Missouri.
“We got ourselves into some tight situations by walking six and hitting one batter,” said Scott Turner, WHS head coach.
“Shane Arrington did a great job coming in relief to calm a storm in the (fourth inning) and then (finished) out the game, allowing only two runs,” Turner added.
Up next: The Tigers are scheduled to play host to the Cuba, Missouri, Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. at the Wayne Brady Baseball Field in Waynesville.
