The 2019 Commander’s Cup Swim Meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday Feb. 23 at the Davidson Fitness Center Natatorium. Military units can sign up to compete in the free, annual event now through Wednesday.
The meet is open to all active-duty military personnel, retirees, Department of Defense civilian employees and dependents ages 18 and older and out of high school. Teams must have a ratio of at least 75-percent active duty service members to 25-percent civilian participants. Participants must swim with the unit of their employment or assignment.
Previous meets have included multiple individual events, including the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle races, the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter individual medley. Team events include the 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter medley and a 400-meter freestyle relays.
The competition is scored similarly to USA Swimming, with teams earning points for each swimmer who finishes in the top five in each event.
The meet typically attracts competitors with a variety of skill levels, from swimmers with previous experience in college or high-school pro-grams to those competing for the first time.
