The Fort Leonard Wood USO has piloted several programs based on responses from recent surveys. The USO team has worked with the community, businesses, and individuals to make these events available to military families.
Due to their initial success, four events will remain on future USO schedules. The list of programs consists of USO Date Night, USO B.O.S.S. Night Out on the Town, USO Family Night Out on the Town and USO Spouses Lunch Out.
“The USO’s goal is to provide programs for every component of military life,” said Kelly Brownfield, USO Western Missouri Regional Operations director. “We wanted to make sure we created programs that reached our military couples, families, spouses and single Soldiers. The purpose of these events is to give those who attend a night out that is free of cost,” Brownfield said.
The USO is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. It offers the comforts of home away from home to military members and their families.
The events are as follows:
— USO Date Night
— USO Family Night Out on the Town
— USO Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers Night Out on the Town
— USO Spouses Lunch Out
Three of the four programs will occur on a quarterly basis. The USO Family Night Out on the Town will be hosted every other month.
All USO events and their descriptions can be found on the USO of Missouri, Inc — FLW USO Club Facebook page under events.
All of these events require pre-registration in person at the USO. Details can be found on the Facebook page. A calendar of events can be picked up at the USO, which also provides registration dates for each event.
Brownfield said the feedback the USO has received from military families has been positive so far.
“When you see feedback from service members who tell you they would not have been able to come out as a family due to cost, but coming to our event eliminated worry, you know all the efforts were worth it,” she said. “All programs we do are meant to strengthen bonds, give our military (families) opportunities to grow, connect and thrive. We have been able to do just that with the support of our community.”
