The deadline is approaching for runners who want to take part in the “Run to Honor Virtual 5K.”
The virtual run, which is open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders, began May 4, concludes Saturday.
To participate, runners and walkers can run or walk a 5K course anywhere they choose, including around their neighborhoods, at local parks and trails, or at home on treadmills. After completing the distance, participants are invited to post photos to the Fort Leonard Wood MWR Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mwr.ftwood/.
The Facebook site, as well as the event listing at leonardwood.armymwr.com, have downloadable pre-made banners that participants can print out and write the names of those they are memorializing to include in their submitted photo.
Those who submit photos are eligible for a drawing for prizes. FMWR will feature all photos submitted from the race in a video compilation that will be posted over Memorial Day weekend on its social media pages.
No registration is necessary.
The annual Run to Honor allows area runners and walkers to complete a 5K race in memory of a service member. Officials converted the run to a virtual event this year due to COVID-19 precautions.
