Special to GUIDON
A group of Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, and the 84th Chemical Battalion took it upon themselves to put their community first and do their part to build trust with an extraordinary group of children from the Rolla area.
Led by 2nd Lt. Cody Hocevar, a platoon leader from 2-48th Inf. Bn., 14 volunteers participated in an event called “Camp Capable.”
Camp Capable is a week-long, all-inclusive, adapted day camp for children ages 6 to 16 with diagnosed developmental delays or disabilities.
These children are not able to attend traditional summer camps as they are not tailored to their particular needs. During the three-day event, volunteers were paired with the same camper to establish trust and friendship.
Campers participated in physical activities, martial arts and a sensory room beside their volunteer each day.
Soldiers said within an hour of spending time with their campers the joy shared by each group was immeasurable.
