From the Waynesville R-VI School District
Special to GUIDON
Parents of Waynesville R-VI students in grades 6 – 12 have a new way to view their child’s lessons, assignments and other class-related content.
By downloading the Canvas Parent App, parents will be able to review upcoming and past assignments and check on grades for assignments, quizzes and tests.
The steps are below, “however, parents will need to obtain a ‘student pairing code’ before they can finish connecting with their child’s Canvas account,” said Michael Henson, director of curriculum and instructional technology.
Steps for both parents and students are listed below.
— Download the Canvas Parent app from either the Google Play or Apple App Store
— Open the app and select “Find My School”
— Type in “Waynesville,”
— Select “Waynesville R-VI – Parent”
— Select “Create Account”
— Enter your demographic information
— Skip to student steps now to the obtain pairing code
— Once you have obtained the pairing code, in your settings, select the menu icon (three vertically-stacked horizontal lines)
— Find the “Manage Children” button that will allow you to add other children to your account
— Login to your Canvas account
— Select “Account,” then “Settings”
— On the right side of window, click on “Pair with Observer”
— A window will open with the “Student Pairing Code” you will need to finish setting up the app
Parents are encouraged to keep their eSchoolPlus Home Access Center account so that they can review 6-week, 12-week and final semester grades. Official grades that will be kept in permanent files will be placed in eSchoolPlus; however, daily work may be tracked in Canvas.
“Canvas is a way for parents to more closely monitor day-to-day assignments,” Henson said. “To put this in perspective, Canvas is similar to a credit card app that lets you see individual purchases and eSchoolPlus is like the statement that you receive at the end of the month.”
The Canvas LMS (learning management system) allows students to collaborate with their teachers and classmates, submit work, take assessments and track their grades and performance.
