The Waynesville High School Tigers varsity boys’ basketball team earned a 67-49 win over the Bulldogs Jan. 14 at Central High School in Springfield, Missouri.
Trailing by six points at halftime, Waynesville dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 26-8, led by Xay McArthur, who led the Tigers overall with 19 points.
“Central played a heck of a first half, and we played a really good second half,” WHS head coach Chris Pilz said. “We made a couple of adjustments at (halftime), and our guys responded.”
Waynesville’s game against Jefferson City was canceled Friday due to inclement weather.
Up next: The Tigers are scheduled to begin play in the St. James Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. James High School. The two-day tournament concludes Saturday.

The WHS girls’ varsity basketball team suffered a 64-37 loss to the Central Lady Bulldogs Jan. 16 in the WHS gym.
The visiting Central team built an early 14-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
That game followed a loss by the Lady Tigers to the Parkview Lady Vikings 52-40 Jan. 13 at Parkview High School in Springfield.
Waynesville fell behind 19-12 in the first quarter and trailed 24-21 at halftime. Parkview broke away in the third quarter, outscoring Waynesville by nine points, and waited out the Lady Tigers in the forth quarter for the win.
Brittany Matlock, WHS head coach, said the game showed the Lady Tigers still needed to work on “competing consistently for four quarters.”
Up next: The Lady Tigers travel Saturday to Bolivar, Missouri, to face Ozark High School in their opening game of the Missouri Hall of Fame Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Southwest Baptist University.
