The Waynesville High School Softball Team hosted “Back the Badge” night Oct. 8 before the start of the varsity home game to honor local law enforcement officers. Deputy Deanna Ross, an 18-month veteran of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, was chosen to throw the first pitch in light of her actions during a recent motorist assistance stop. Ross was on patrol in rural Pulaski County Oct. 5 and pulled over to help a stranded motorist. When she discovered one of the passengers was wanted for questioning for domestic assault, Ross attempted to place him under arrest. The suspect then assaulted and attacked Ross with a knife. Despite being injured in the attack, Ross was able to subdue the suspect without any significant injury to her or others in the area. For her bravery and dedication, the WHS softball team saluted Ross and all the members of law enforcement in the community. Photo by Allie Hillman.
