You can get fit, have fun and help raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month during two new activities happening on Fort Leonard Wood April 5: the inaugural Sexual Assault Awareness Zumbathon and the “Strike Out” Sexual Assault Bowling Event.
Up first: The 3rd Chemical Brigade will host the Sexual Assault Awareness Zumbathon for authorized patrons from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Davidson Fitness Center. The free event is open to all military service members, military family members, Department of Defense employees and civilian employees ages 18 and older. No advance registration is required.
Zumba combines a variety of aerobic and strength-building moves with music, allowing participants to dance their way to fitness. Zumba instructors with DFC will lead the workout.
Before and after the event, participants can visit a number of informational booths set up around the gym.
“We have a number of outside agencies and agencies from Fort Leonard Wood that will set up booths,” said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Hughes, 3rd Chem. Bde. Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.
Next: Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will hold the inaugural “Strike Out” Sexual Assault Bowling Event from 1 to 4 p.m. at Daugherty Bowling Center.
Open to service members, civilians and family members, the event will include a competition between four-person teams.
Entry is $14 per team, and includes shoe rental and two games per person. The event is limited to a maximum of 20 teams. The registration deadline is Monday. Teams can register by calling 573.528.4098.
